Beginner and class 1 competition training
You have all the pieces you need to enter beginner/class 1 but don't know how to start putting it all together and how to train for the competition? Then look no further! This course is like a signpost showing you the way to a relaxed and successful beginner competition.
In the individual exercises, we will focus on:
- How to build up the group exercises
- Heelwork: how to build turns, fast pace and stops
- How to build up positions n the march
- Box: how to reduce the visibility of the target or toy, how to send from the heel position, finishing the exercise
- Recall: stability in the down, how to come into heel position / sit in front
- Retrieve: How to put it all together
- Jump: Having fun jumping, jumping exercises, dumbbell
- Distance control: Building the distance between dog and handler, getting a good first position change, building endurance for the change
- Pylongroup: how to put it all together
We will teach you the following new elements:
- How to get into the starting position for each exercise
- Transporting the dog from exercise to exercise
- "exercise finished" what to do now?

- Common competition problems and reasons why
Before taking this course your dog should be able to:
- Group exercises: understand the cue for stand and down
- Heelwork: already walk by you in the left side
- Positions on the march: know the cue for each position
- Box: run to a toy or target
- Recall: come into the heel position /sit in front from nearby with your help
- Retrieve: hold and drop a dumbell on cue
- Distance control: change from sit to down to sit with help when you are close
- Pylon group: informally go around the pylon group from nearby
Format:
The course consists of 10 lessons, each featuring 2–4 engaging topics. For every topic, you’ll receive detailed instructions, videos, and notes to guide you step by step through the material. Hovawart Bella and Aussie Maybe will show you that other breeds can shine just as brightly in training – no Border Collie required!
Prerequisites:
Your dog should be at least 15 months old.
Duration:
The course lasts 12 months.

Rules for the German Beginner Class:
1. Walking on leash around a group of dogs to test behaviour
2. Stand for exam. The steward has to touch the dog
3. Lying in group for 2 minutes
4. Heelwork
5. Sit from Heelwork
6. Send to the box from 10 m
7. Recall out of box 20-25m
8. Retrieve: the handler moves away from dog, puts the dumbell down and stands at 5m.
9. Distance control: sit-down position change at 5m
10. Sending around a big cone at 10m
